CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

As Toros Tarım, we are pleased to launch Meram Yenilenebilir Enerji, a high value-added facility for fostering a sustainable agriculture and circular economy, at a time when the importance of the agriculture and food chain for all countries and humanity is once again realized.

Humanity needs a sustainable development model to pass on a livable world to future generations. Protecting the environment and the quality of life of all people on earth while meeting our needs in every sector is of vital importance for our common future.

Meram Yenilenebilir Enerji is our second biggest investment that embraces this understanding after Gönen Enerji, which joined our incorporation in 2019. Our plant produces biogas and electricity obtained from the organic waste in the region and contributes to the production of renewable energy in Turkey, while taking a considerably active role in protecting the environment, with a capacity of 770 tons per day of waste disposal. Our facility, which will provide an emission reduction equivalent to 70,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually, will also produce completely environmentally friendly with zero liquid waste discharge, advanced flue gas treatment and heat recovery systems.

Biogas, an environmentally friendly energy source, is a rapidly growing sector across the world as one of the most successful actors of circular economy. More than 50 million businesses of different sizes worldwide operate in the industry, which is promoted in many countries. The biogas produced can be directly used as fuel, or as a clean and efficient source for electricity generation. With the electricity it produces, our Meram plant will meet the annual electricity needs of more than 14 thousand households.

In addition, solid and liquid organic fertilizers that our country’s soils need will be supplied from the waste generated during biogas production processes. The 75,000 tons of solid organo-mineral fertilizers and 15,000 tons of liquid organo-mineral fertilizers produced annually in our facility will add richness and fertility to our soils in terms of organic matter content. Fertilizers derived from food waste will return to the soil, enabling the production of more crops and more food. In turn, the environment, our farmers and the economy will benefit from this cycle.

As the largest mineral fertilizer producer of our country, we further strengthen our support we have been giving to Turkish agriculture for 40 years with our organic and organo-mineral fertilizer investments under the Toros Agri brand, and we believe that Toros Meram Yenilenebilir Enerji will make significant contributions to the region in terms of environmental protection, economic growth and social development.
